Sands' success with poker is due in part to the tables’ central location in the casino, DeSalvio said. Some casinos tuck their poker rooms into far-off corners, but Sands' are in the middle of the floor and very close to The Market Gourmet Express food court and Cobalt Café.
The casino also will be considering adding more table games in the future in addition to keeping its 3,024 slot machines, DeSalvio said.

Down to a low of 760 employees following an 80-employee lay off April 30, the casino is once again employing more than 1,000 people, DeSalvio said. About 50 of the people who lost their jobs in April have since been hired back and the other 30 will be called when more jobs open, DeSalvio said.
Sands intends to hire another 100 employees by Memorial Day weekend, when its 300-room hotel is expected to open. Construction is on target, DeSalvio said.
The company also continues to negotiate with the owners of Steel Ice about a possible partnership to complete Sands' 40,000-square-foot events center, DeSalvio said.
